Executive Protection Schools – What to Look For

Posted on

When considering executive protection schools, there are some key factors to look for, and others to avoid. Get the facts on Executive Protection Training.

Executive Protection Schools

What to look for…

While many executive protection schools tout the “certifications” you will receive upon completion of the training, ask yourself “what certifications does the school have?”
executive protection schools

Executive Protection Schools – School Certifications

Part of the difficulty in the bodyguard/ close protection/ executive protection industry is in most states, there are no licensing or oversights involved. In short, this means anyone can “teach” anything. Maybe even teach practices that are inherently dangerous given there is no state governance.
So is there any oversight?

D.O.E. Certifications and Approvals

executive protection schools - certificationsThere are but a very few elite schools that have taken the time and expense to get approved by the Department of Education. After all, we are talking about Executive Protection Schools. So that makes it makes sense for the D.O.E. to be involved, since they oversee “schools”.
ESS is the only Executive Protection School in Florida that is certified and approved by the Florida Department of Education. What this means is someone has reviewed our courses and our trainers. Every year, we spend days with a D.O.E. team from Tallahassee. We do this for you. so that you know someone has approved what we are teaching and who is teaching it.

Federal Certifications and Approvals

Even folks who have never served in the military have heard of either the Veterans Administration or the GI Bill® for college or vocational training.
executive protection schools - VA Approved to accept GI Bill BenefitsIt should be no surprise that the Federal Government is very strict on what qualifies as a “school”, especially in the case of Executive Protection Schools. This process is strict and takes years to get approved.
ESS is the only Executive Protection School in Florida that is certified and approved by the VA to accept GI Bill Benefits. And again, we are one of the very few executive protection schools in the nation approved by the VA.

Real World Experience

Possibly one of the biggest issues you will face when looking for executive protection schools is “are they active in the industry”.
Why is this important? Well, you know the old adage? “Those who cannot do teach?”
executive protection schools - VA Approved to accept GI Bill BenefitsIt is extremely important when searching for executive protection schools, to research your school and your instructors. Make certain that not only have your instructors worked in the Executive Protection industry, but they are active in it now! Remember, the Executive Protection industry is evolving rapidly, especially in the corporate world and Executive Protection changes just like any industry.
If you are planning on attending a school where the instructor is the same person instructing for the last 20-30 years, you may want to find out how many jobs they have worked in those last 20-30 years. We are willing to bet you will be surprised.
ESS Global uses proven methodology, derived from protective security operations and security consulting in over 60 countries around the world.  These operations have been conducted in threat environments ranging from “negligible” to “imminent”.

Other Security Courses

Lastly, a real “school” has more than one or two courses. ESS Global Corp has a full slate of security courses in Tampa including;
Executive Protection Schools - Other Security Courses

ESS - The Best Choice in Executive Protection SchoolsIf you are serious about entering the world of Executive/ Close Protection, doesn’t it make sense to choose a school that is serious?

D.O.E. Approved – GI Bill Benefits Approved

If you are considering a career in the rapidly growing executive protection field, know that in the protection industry, there is no EP “degree” (online or otherwise), no“license”, no state testing, and no state boards in most states. Executive Protection Training is usually lumped into the same category as Security Guards or Private Investigation and has little to do with either. Yet we see training to earn your “certified protection specialist credentials” advertised online. Unfortunately, nobody is regulating these schools, training centers and trainers. No government agency regulates or monitors what is taught and who is teaching it. Anybody off the street could be teaching you, and you could be paying for false or misleading information.
virtra-simulator-for-active-shooter-in-ess-executive-protection-trainingThis is exactly where the ESS Global Executive Protection Training School differs. We are licensed and our curriculum and instructors are all regulated and monitored by the D.O.E., and, we are the only Protection School in the southeast US that is D.O.E. approved and certified for executive protection training. Now add that we are a GI Bill Approved Executive Protection School and toss in our real world experience…as well as being the only protection school offering active shooter training as part of our Bodyguard/Executive Protection training via the only VirTra Simulator in Florida, and only one of two installations in the country…

Choosing a Bodyguard School

Posted on

Now we prefer the term Executive Protection, but here are some tips to consider when choosing a bodyguard school.

Choosing a Bodyguard School

It’s no small secret, the better the training, the better your chances are for employment. It’s true in every career choice.
So how do you choose?

Reputation

A good place to start is asking people in the industry. If that’s not possible, then Google and Facebook reviews and the Better Business Bureau are good starting points. Now you can’t please 100% of your customers, but the positive reviews should outweigh the negative.
choosing a bodyguard schoolPart of the difficulty in the bodyguard/ close protection/ executive protection industry is in most states, there are no licensing or oversights involved. In short, this means anyone can “teach” anything. Maybe even teach practices that are inherently dangerous given there is no state governance.
There are no state tests, boards, or certifications. Unlike therapeutic massage, or diving, or CPR, or dozens of other certifications you can get with training. What you get when you are all done with executive protection training, even from us, is a piece of paper and nothing more. There are no Federal or State “EP Certifications”.
Though we are not required, we are the only Executive Protection School in Florida that is certified and approved by the Florida Department of Education. What this means is someone has reviewed our courses and our trainers. Every year, we spend days with a team from Tallahassee. We do this for you. so that you know someone has approved what we are teaching and who is teaching it.

Location

Choosing a bodyguard school - ESSOver the past decade, many schools and universities have gone “online”. While we have no doubt that that is a viable option if you are taking accounting courses, it certainly doesn’t apply to Executive Protection.
So it’s likely you may have to travel. While many of our classes are held in the Tampa Florida area, we also take it “on the road” to cities such as Charlotte, Raleigh, Chicago, Detroit, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Dallas and more.
If you are serious about a career in personal protection, learn at a school that is serious.

Pricing

Virtra Simulator for active shooter in ESS Executive Protection TrainingIn our research, Executive Protection Training 3-day courses tend to run from $350 to a high of $1500.
What we have done here at ESS Global, is to stay clear of the “fluff” and instead help you build a solid foundation in the world of close protection. This 3-day training even makes use of the only VirTra Simulator here in Tampa Florida and 1 of only 2 pubic installations in the entire country for “active shooter training”.
ESS Global Corp 3-day Executive Protection Training is $500. And if you are a Veteran, we have payment options available.

Choosing a Bodyguard School – What to Watch Out For

  • Schools that promise jobs or work
  • Schools that promise “Executive Protection Specialist” certifications.
  • Schools that don’t offer any other coursework

Which reminds us…
Here are some of the other D.O.E. Approved courses ESS Global offers;

Halloween Safety Tips 2016 – ESS Global Corp

Posted on

With Halloween right around the corner, ESS Global, a D.O.E. approved safety consulting firm has some important Halloween safety tips.

Halloween Safety Tips 2016

Halloween brings fun and sweets to children, but those ghouls and goblins are not the things to be afraid about. Accidents and mishaps increase dramatically on Halloween night. For instance, children are more than twice as likely to be struck and killed by a car on Halloween than any other day of the year.

Halloween Safety Tips

Trick or Treating

  • Halloween Safety Tips for 2016Plan your route in advance – stick to areas both you and your children are familiar with. Keep your head on a swivel.
  • Stay well lit – carry glow sticks and flashlights. Be sure you can see your path. Be sure you can be seen by motorists.
  • Don’t trip up – Make sure costumes don’t touch the ground. Long costumes that drag on the ground can be dangerous, especially at night.
  • Avoid masks that impede sight!
  • Stay in groups – bring friends, stay in groups and never send younger children out alone.
  • Be sure children do not approach any vehicle, occupied or not, unless you are with them.
  • Put electronic devices down and keep heads up and walk, don’t run. Use crosswalks and traffic signals.
  • Watch out for open flames in jack-o-lanterns.
  • Teach children to never dart out into the street or cross between parked cars.
  • Always walk younger children to the door to receive treats, and…
  • Never enter the home of a stranger.

Driving

  • Halloween Safety Tips - DrivingSlow down and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods. Children are excited on Halloween and can move in unpredictable ways.
  • Enter and exit driveways slowly and carefully.
  • Take extra time to look for kids at intersections.
  • Drive slowly, anticipate heavy pedestrian traffic and turn your headlights on earlier in the day.
  • It’s a popular night for adult parties – While no night is good for drinking and driving, this is especially true tonight!

By taking the time to plan ahead and using these Halloween safety tips, you can ensure you and your children, as well as others, have a happy, healthy, and safe Halloween.
