Executive Protection Training in Florida
ESS Global Corp, a leading Executive Protection and Security Consulting Firm, maintains an Executive Protection School that is currently the only state licensed Executive Protection School through the Florida Department of Education and is the only GI Bill approved Security School in Florida, as well as VA Vocational Rehabilitation.

If you are serious about Executive Protection Training

If you are serious about Executive Protection Training, you should know it differs significantly from;

  • VIP Protection Training
  • Close Protection Training
  • Bodyguard Training
  • Celebrity Protection Training
  • etc…

Executive Protection Training in Florida at ESS

the secret service started executive protection trainingWhile the basic premise of a bodyguard goes back hundreds, if not thousands of years, Executive Protection is a relatively new field in the protection industry. Executive Protection was started in the 1970’s by the United States Secret Service when they created the Executive Protection Service to guard visiting foreign dignitaries.
If you are considering a career in the rapidly growing executive protection field, know that in the protection industry, there is no “license”, no state testing, and no state boards in most states. Executive Protection Training is usually lumped into the same category as Security Guards or Private Investigation and has little to do with either.
Yet we see training to earn your “certified protection specialist credentials” advertised online. Unfortunately, nobody is regulating these schools, training centers and trainers. No government agency regulates or monitors what is taught and who is teaching it. Anybody off the street could be teaching you, and you could be paying for false or misleading information. So the“protection credentials” you are handed at the end of the training is a piece of paper from the trainer and nothing more.
D.O.E. Approved executive protection trainingThis is exactly where the ESS Global Executive Protection Training School differs. We are licensed and our curriculum and instructors are all regulated and monitored by the D.O.E., and, only a select few elite schools are D.O.E. approved and certified for executive protection training.
executive protection training - classroomThe bottom line is that D.O.E. Executive Protection Training has more in common with Secret Service techniques, than what “Joe’s Bodyguard Training” offers. Most bodyguards fresh out of school, will not be able to define or discuss basic processes central to Executive Protection training such as; Threat Assessment, Advance Tactics, Route Reconnaissance, Embus and Debus plans, Area Surveillance, Movement Safety, Situational Awareness, Defensive Driving and Evasion, Crowd Control, Vehicle Placement/Movement, and more.  Ask anyone in the Secret Service or Special Ops. Hands down it’s Executive Protection Training, with brains over brawn.

Businesses have to deal daily with the harsh reality that thefts and other crimes can occur on business premises. Some businesses, such as convenience stores, banks, and retail stores, among others, may be more of a target for criminals and thieves than other types, but a wide variety of businesses choose to hire security guards. Guards can be used to prevent crime, maintain security, and assist both customers and employees.

Security

padlock-597495_640
The very presence of a security guard at a business can provide peace of mind and a sense of security to business owners, employees and customers. Employees that work in high-risk areas are easier to retain, as well as more productive when they don’t need to worry about their personal safety. It also lets customers know that you are concerned about their security and willing to take the proper precautions to insure their safety. This may be particularly important for businesses that deal in expensive merchandise or located in high-crime areas or are a 24 hour concern.

Prevention

armed tampa security guards
Simply having a security guard present is the best deterrent to crime. A guard is a greater visual deterrent than either camera surveillance or a standard security system. Using ESS Global Tampa Security Guards sends a message to would-be criminals that you are serious about the security of your business. Thieves will think twice about targeting a business that has uniformed protection. ESS Tampa Security Guards are trained to look for suspicious activity on the spot. They can assess a situation and react to security accordingly as trained. Hiring trained and licensed Tampa Security Guards from a reputable company like ESS Global Corp can ensure that the guard behaves capably and sensibly when faced with criminal activity on business premises.

Executive Protection or Bodyguard?

Posted on

Executive Protection or Bodyguard. It’s a question that floats around here often. Are we a bodyguard school or an executive protection school?

Executive Protection or Bodyguard?

Executive protection r bodyguard training - There is a difference
Well, according to the Department of Education, we are a “Protection School” so that seems to place us in executive protection. But if you ask the CEO of ESS Global Corp, Theo Billiris, it is only a question in the student’s mind.
“In our industry, that is, as it relates to the true professionals, we never call ourselves bodyguards. Reason being, is that bodyguard usually brings to mind the stereotype of the big muscle guy that has almost no brain power. These are also the same individuals that have little, or in most cases, no training. These are the guys that usually become a liability to their clients and cause them harm rather than prevent it.”
“But when we advertise training, we need to mention “bodyguard” because most people don’t know the term “Executive Protection” nor do they realize that true professionals actually exsist.”
Mr. Billiris believes the training provides the best definition.
Executive protection or bodyguard? - Training makes the difference
“Most bodyguards never heard such words as Threat Assessment, Advance Work, Route Reconnaissance, Embus and Debus plans, area surveillance, movement safety, etc. These guys usually show up on the day of an event/gig and depend on physical deterrence. The problem with that is, there is usually someone in the crowd that no matter how big you are, they will still try something foolish. A lot of times, purposely, in an effort to get you to go hands on with them and then collect a pay day in the form of a lawsuit or out of court settlement/payoff. Just ask Justin Bieber.”
Then of course, how do others view the difference between executive protection and bodyguards?
“Security Professionals who want to bolster their résumé with a certification from a school that meets a standard acceptable to the government (D.O.E.) and to the corporate world and has a reputation in the security industry should call us. We are the only protection school in the state of Florida that is approved by the US Department of Education and only one of a handful in the entire country. So that stands out in a resume.”
What is the biggest problem in the protection training industry?
executive protection or bodyguard? - executive protection!
“What’s frustrating is that if you go to court, your attorney passed the bar. A standardized test. Same if you have open heart surgery. They passed the boards. These people are licensed. In the protection industry, there is no “license”, no testing, and no boards in most states. Executive Protection is usually lumped into the same category as Security Guards or Private Investigation and has little to do with either. Yet, online we see training to earn your “certified protection specialist credentials” and they are in “high demand”. Unfortunately, nobody is regulating these schools or training centers. Meaning, nobody regulates or monitors what is taught and who is teaching it. Anybody off the street could be teaching you false information and you are paying for it. So a “protection credential” is a piece of paper from the trainer and nothing more. This is where ESS Global Executive Protection School differs. We are licensed and our curriculum and instructors are all regulated and monitored by the D.O.E. And, only a few elite schools are D.O.E. approved and certified for executive protection. Having a government certified protection school on your resume is a big plus, and a great way to get started.”

Additionally, our D.O.E status is a well-known fact in the security business. So the best candidates know where to go to get world class training. Plus, we get to see those agents every day during training, offering choice positions to the best of the best in each and every class, providing a consistent level of quality, awareness and skills that other security companies never attain because they never know the agent’s skill set until they are out in the field. In the Close Protection industry, that can be dangerous!
