Class G Security License in Tampa September 15-17


To work armed security in Florida, you are required to complete the Florida Statewide Firearms License Course. The ESS Global Corporation, Department of Education approved Florida G License Classes in Tampa is the best way to acquire the required firearms training course you must complete to work as an armed security guard.
As stated in the Florida Private Investigator Handbook, an applicant for a Florida Class “G” Statewide Firearm license must have a minimum of twenty-eight (28) hours of range and classroom training within the past (12) months.  This training must be taught and administered by a Class “K” Firearms Instructor.
In addition to lesson instruction and live fire training, you will be walked through the State application step-by-step to ensure that the Class “G” license application is complete and filled out properly.
Students that pass the final exam and range qualification will be given a proof of completion certificate to provide to the State when they apply for the Class “G” license.

In most states, including here in Florida, bodyguards are lumped in with security guards. Simply put, from a governing perspective, bodyguards get the same “certifications” as armed and unarmed security. For instance here in Florida that would be a state-issued G and D license respectively.
What this means to you.
What you need to understand is the bodyguard “certifications” you receive at the end of the training are just pieces of paper from the “School”. It’s the “School’s Certification” and nothing else. It’s even true here at ESS. It’s paper, and it’s genuinely not worth much more that the paper it’s printed on (though is does look nice in a frame).
That being said, there are “Security Detail” Certifications that you can get here at ESS such as the aforementioned D and G, as well as ASP, Phazzer and Red Cross certifications for instance. Those are real certifications.
But again, there are no “Executive Protection Certification” or Bodyguard Specialist”, or any other fancy sounding certifications. It’s a “School Certification” showing you took a course.

The attainment of a Class “D” statewide license issued by Florida’s Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is the first step in becoming a security officer.  Once you have completed the state-mandated 40-hours of classroom training and taken and passed the exam the State of Florida will issue you a temporary license.  The temporary license will allow you to begin working immediately while waiting for your hard copy from the State. 
Note that the Class “D” license is for unarmed positions.   For an armed position, you must complete the requisite requirements to obtain a Class “G” license that entails 28 hours of state-mandated classes plus a 48-round firearms qualification course.
The requirements are as follows:

  • Florida D Security License Training August 28-31 ESS LogoBe at least 18 years of age.
  • Be of good moral character.
  • Be a citizen or legal resident alien of the United States.
  • May not have been adjudicated incapacitated under s. 744.331 or a similar statute in another state.
  • May not have been involuntarily placed in a treatment facility for the mentally ill, unless judicially restored.
  • May not have been diagnosed with an incapacitating mental illness, unless cleared by a psychiatrist.
  • May not be a chronic or habitual user of alcoholic beverages to the extent the individual’s normal faculties are impaired.
  • May not have been committed for controlled substance abuse.
