Florida law usually allows the weapon or firearm to be legally kept ‘securely encased” in a vehicle, although there are some exceptions. The simplest and most common definition of “securely encased” means it is in a holster or gun rug that is snapped, zipped, or strapped, or in a box or container with a closed lid or top so that the lid or top must be physically opened in order to use or fire the weapon. Securely encased would also allow the firearm or weapon to be placed inside a closed glove compartment or closed console of a vehicle. The firearm may be fully loaded at the time.

Our unarmed Orlando D Florida security guard training classes are now in session. You no longer need to drive to Tampa for world class D.O.E licensed and approved training. The attainment of a Class “D” statewide license issued by Florida’s Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is the first step in becoming a security officer.  Once you have completed the state-mandated 40-hours of classroom training and taken and passed the exam the State of Florida will issue you a temporary license.  The temporary license will allow you to begin working immediately while waiting for your hard copy from the State.  The Class “D” license is for unarmed positions.  For armed positions, you must complete the requisite requirements to obtain a Class “G” license that entails 28 hours of state-mandated classes plus a 48-round firearms qualification course.
Note:  Anyone may take the class to obtain the Class “D” license.  However, F.S. 493.6109 outlines the guidelines that must be met in order to be eligible to obtain a “D” license.
The requirements (as posted on  http://www.freshfromflorida.com/) are as follows:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be of good moral character
  • Be a citizen or legal resident alien of the United States.
  • May not have been adjudicated incapacitated under s. 744.331 or a similar statute in another state.
  • May not have been involuntarily placed in a treatment facility for the mentally ill, unless judicially
  • May not have been diagnosed with an incapacitating mental illness, unless cleared by a psychiatrist.
  • May not be a chronic or habitual user of alcoholic beverages to the extent the individual’s normal faculties are impaired.
  • May not have been committed for controlled substance abuse.

The 40-hour course is separated into a 24-hour course and a 16-hour course.  Both courses must be completed before a temporary license will be issued.

Orlando Florida G License Training

As stated in the Florida Private Investigator Handbook, an applicant for a Florida Class “G” Statewide Firearm license must have a minimum of twenty-eight (28) hours of range and classroom training within the past (12) months.  This training must be taught and administered by a Class “K” Firearms Instructor.
D.O.E. Approved Bodyguard Training School
ESS Global Corp is the only Protection School in the state of Florida that is licensed and approved by the US Department of Education. Additionally, our D.O.E status is a well-known fact in the security business. So the best candidates know where to go to get world class training. The Class G Statewide Firearms License, issued by Florida’s Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services under the direction of Adam Putnum (pictured – center), is the license that permits any individual who possesses a valid Class “D” Security Officer license to perform the duties of an armed security officer while on an armed post or on an armed assignment. Further, the Class “G” license permits holders of valid Class “C”, “CC”, “M”, “MA”, and “MB” licenses to perform duties while armed.

Orlando Florida G License Training 

Class “G” licensees must obtain twenty-eight (28) hours of firearms range re-certification training during each year of the 2-year licensure period (eight hours of total training required for re-certification/renewal).  Range recertification must be taught and administered by a Class “K” Firearms Instructor.  Renewal of the Class “G” license will be denied if a licensee has failed to fulfill the four (4) hour annual training requirement.  If the 4 hours of annual training is not completed each year during the 2-year licensing period, the individual must re-take the training required at initial licensure.
ESS, which owns and operates the only US D.O.E Protection School in Florida, offers Florida Armed Security Officer “G” Course that covers all information required by the State of Florida Department of Agriculture for Class G license applicants, including: F.S. 493, 775, 776 and 790, Firearms Safety & Mechanics, Civil Liability 7 use of Force Issues, Handgun Marksmanship, Care and Maintenance of Firearms and other related topics.
ESS Global students that successfully complete the “G” course, pass the final examination and complete the range qualification will be give proof of completion to provide to the State when they apply for ESS Global Corp - Orlando Florida G License Trainingtheir Class “G” license.
Students that have successfully completed the “G” license must complete the annual re-qualification in order to maintain their “G” license status.
NOTE:  ANYONE MAY TAKE THIS CLASS.  However, in order for you to OBTAIN a Class “G” Statewide Firearms License, you MUST:

  • Have completed a state-mandated 40-hour unarmed Security Officer training program, OR
  • Be scheduled to complete a state-mandated 40-hour unarmed Security Officer training program, OR
  • Possess a valid FL Class “D” Security Officer License, OR
  • Possess a valid FL Class “CC” Private Investigator Intern License, OR
  • Possess a valid FL Class “C” Private Investigator License.

Additionally, the State of Florida requires applicants for firearms licenses must be at least 21 years of age, have no disqualifying criminal history, and be legally allowed to work in the United States.
